Brett Favre says goodbye to NFL at press conference

Friday, March 7, 2008

After playing 17 seasons in the United States’ top professional football league, quarterback Brett Favre of the National Football League‘s (NFL) Green Bay Packers bid a final farewell to the sport in an emotional press conference at Lambeau Field on Thursday, saying he is “not up to the challenge” of another season.

“I know I can play. But I don’t think I want to, and that’s what it really comes down to,” the 38-year-old Favre said.

Favre, who officially retired on Tuesday, dressed for the hour-long event in an untucked button-down shirt, blue jeans, and days worth of stubble. “It is on my terms, which is a good way to go out,” he said of his attire. He thanked the Green Bay Packers’ organization, his family, and his fans for their support throughout his career, but reluctantly admitted it was time to move on.

“I’ve given everything I can possibly give to this organization and I don’t think I’ve got anything left to give,” he said, as tears welled up in his eyes. “What matters is it’s been a great career for me. It’s over. As hard as it is for me to say, it’s over.”

His retirement came as somewhat of a surprise to the Packers, who expected he would return for another year. Favre refuted the notion that the Packers did not do enough to get him to return, and assured the organization that nothing they could have done would have affected his decision.

It’s only gotten tougher and something told me ‘You know it’s gotten too hard for you.’

“I know there’s been comments and issues in the press lately about why I’m leaving, whether or not the Packers did enough, whether or not Ted or (coach) Mike (McCarthy) convinced me to stay,” Favre said. “None of those things have anything to do with me retiring, and that’s from the heart.”

He instead offered a simpler reason for his departure: the stress of the job was getting to be too much “I don’t think it would get easier next year or the following year,” he said. “It hasn’t up until this point. It’s only gotten tougher and something told me ‘You know it’s gotten too hard for you.'”

When asked about his future plans, he replied, “Nothing.” This is a new phase in his life, he explained. “I am going to stick to that until I want to do something else.” He and his wife, Deanna, said they will be putting all public events on hold for a year, because, as Deanna said, “Honestly, we both are really tired.” He says they will still be involved with charities in the future, but not as extensively as before.

Favre holds NFL records in most wins by a starting quarterback, most passing yards, most passing touchdowns and most consecutive games started. However, he says that “the statistics part wasn’t that important. I was never really a statistics guy. I hope my legacy is a lot more than that.”

In 2007, he led the Packers to a 13-3 season, but lost in the NFC championship game to the eventual champion New York Giants. The final pass of his career was an interception that resulted in the Giants’ game-winning field goal. Still, Favre believes he is “going out on top”, and he could “care less what other people think”.

“One play, one game, one season, doesn’t define me,” he said. “It has been a wonderful career.”

Breast Implant Size: What Size Is Too Big Or Too Small?

By Abigail Aaronson

One of the primary concerns for women who are considering breast augmentation is what size of implants to opt for. Since this surgery is a life-changing process, the possibility of going too big or too small is the cause of much agonizing for most women.

The first thing to remember is that breast implant sizes are not evaluated the way bra sizes are. While a 36C bra made by one manufacturer can be the same as a 34B bra made by another, implants are based on cubic centimeters or cc(s), depending on how much volume of saline or silicone is used to fill the implant.

While your bra size is an important factor in deciding how big or small you want to go, be prepared for your surgeon to discuss size in terms of cc(s). Most doctors will recommend that you have a general idea of the aesthetic look you want to achieve and compare before and after pictures of women with a similar body type and frame before you decide how big or small your size should be.

If you have friends who’ve had augmentation surgery ask them about sizes and how they decided on theirs. Another way to get an idea is to ask around on online communities and forums where women display photos of their results with their exact measurements before and after surgery. Find out how many cc(s) they used and whether it was saline or silicone. You can also get recommendations for plastic surgeons who can give you the look you want.

There are a few tricks you can use to help you make that decision right in the comfort of your home. The rice technique uses pantyhose or old stockings, to create pouches filled with rice. These pouches are then inserted into a bra of the size you hope to wear after surgery. A general guideline to follow when performing the rice test is to use the quantities here to simulate cc(s).

* 1 cup of rice generally equals 236 cc

* 1/2 cup of rice generally equals 118 cc

* 1/4 cup of rice generally equals 59 cc

Wearing these pouches gives you an idea of how your new breasts will look and feel. Although most women use rice to simulate the added weight of the implants, you can also use oatmeal or potato flakes as a filling. Implants are available in sizes from 125 to 1200 cc, which is the largest legal size allowed. However, the most popular options range from 350 to 450 cc.

Using the guidelines above, you can experiment by increasing or decreasing the quantity of rice in the pouches. Keep testing to see how much is too big, too small or just right for you. Wear the pouches day and night around the house and under your clothes to see how they look and feel in daily wear.

If the rice test is not for you, invest in a professional sizing kit containing a bra with special pockets for gel implants. This is available for around $50 and will give you an estimate that is very close to what your surgeon will tell you. Another DIY option is to stuff a bra with old socks. Women have used this for generations, but it’s not an exact method, and you would have to take the socks in to the surgeon’s office during your consultation.

When choosing your size, keep in mind that your breast skin will be stretched over the new implants, so there’s a limit to how big you can go. When in doubt, its better to go bigger than smaller, because one of the primary reasons for breast revisions is that women want to go bigger. Your surgeon will discuss this with you during your consultation, so you should voice your concerns right there.

Choosing a doctor is also important to the outcome of your augmentation procedure. You need to research a number of doctors and make sure your plastic surgeon is certified by the American Society of Plastic Surgeons and also trained by Allergan or Mentor, the primary manufacturers of breast implants.

Also make sure your surgeon shares your aesthetic goals or you may end up unsatisfied with your size. Some doctors prefer the natural look, while others will allow you to choose the fake look, if that’s what you want. While there is no way to guarantee that your decision on size will turn out to be right for you, keeping all these suggestions in mind will help you make an informed choice.

Officials say at least seventeen killed by suspected US drones in Pakistan

Tuesday, February 2, 2010

According to reports from officials, at least sixteen militants were killed in Pakistan earlier today when suspected US drone attacks struck a village in the North Waziristan region, along the border with Afghanistan.

The drones hit suspected fighters’ hideouts, as well as a training centre, authorities said. According to the Al Jazeera news agency, local residents were recovering dead bodies and wounded people out of the rubble.

“Up to eight US drones fired some 18 missiles at multiple militant targets in Dattakhel village,” commented a police official to the Agence France-Presse news agency; “at least 16 militants were killed in the missile strikes.”

Pakistan’s government condemns the drone strikes, which have been increasingly frequent recently; however, US authorities claim the attacks have killed several high-ranking members of rebel groups, and are essential to protect soldiers in neighbouring Afghanistan.

The US government does not officially confirm the strikes; however, their troops in Afghanistan are the only known group in the area that uses unmanned drones that can fire missiles.

Messi speaks of Argentina exit after losing Copa América Centenario over penalties

Thursday, June 30, 2016

Argentina’s football captain Lionel Messi spoke of retirement from international football after losing 4–2 to Chile in the penalty decider in Copa América Centenario final on Sunday. Since then, many players including his present FC Barcelona teammate Luis Suárez, former teammates David Villa and Ronaldinho, former Argentina captain Diego Maradona, and Argentine president Mauricio Macri have expressed disappointment, some urging him to stay.

Messi missed the penalty kick after Chilean Arturo Vidal’s spot kick was stopped by Sergio Romero as the match progressed to a penalty shootout. Javier Mascherano and Sergio Agüero scored their spot kicks for Argentina, but after Lucas Biglia’s penalty was saved by Claudio Bravo, Francisco Silva scored the winning penalty for Chile.

Messi was crying after the match, and later told news reporters, “In the dressing room I thought that this is the end for me with the national team, it’s not for me” ((es))Spanish language: ?En el vestuario pensé que se terminó para mí la Selección, no es para mí. He added, “I tried so hard to be champion with Argentina. Now I am leaving without having managed it” ((es))Spanish language: ?Ya lo intenté mucho, ser campeón con Argentina. No se dio, no lo pude conseguir.

Today, Suárez speaking to Radio Tenfield said, “Knowing Leo, I’m sure it was said in a moment of sadness and helplessness. It would be a shame for football if he took this decision, but I’m sure he will reconsider and change his mind.”

Yesterday, president Mauricio Macri and Maradona urged him to think about his decision.

Messi’s former teammate David Villa said, “It’s very bad news for soccer. Messi is the best player in the world. […] I don’t know what happened in his mind[…] I know he’s strong, a professional player, he’s sure now disappointed because he lost one more final in penalty kicks again.”

Ronaldinho, former Brazilian player and ex-Barcelona player, told America TV he respects Messi’s opinion and he would be always with him.

Five time World Player of the Year Messi has lost four finals on the international stage, of which three defeats came in the last three years — 2014 FIFA World Cup loss to Germany, last year’s loss to Chile, and this year’s.

Sergio Agüero told Argentine newspaper Olé other players were also deciding weather to hang up their boots.

Messi played for Argentina when they won the 2008 Beijing Olympics gold medal.

What Is The Right Insurance Plan For My Family?

Choosing The Right Life Insurance PlanInterested in buying permanent life insurance, but afraid you may not buy the right policy that would fit your personal situation? Buying insurance is like renting a product to help you financially in case something unexpected happens. Most permanent life insurance includes universal, variable, and whole life insurance. These policies hold a value that fits most individuals’ needs. Here are some tips to help you find the policy that will fit your lifestyle and family needs.Evaluate your families lifestyle and needs when determining the amount of life insurance you purchase. Everyone has individual life needs that will need to be addressed in the event of a family death. You must make sure that the amount of coverage is enough to care for your loved ones should this occur.Pay your premiums promptly. If the holder fails to pay the monthly premium on their insurance term, or if they decide to stop making payments before the whole life plan gains any value, they will lose the policy. They will also be forced to get a new policy and the new policy could be more expensive. This can especially be true if they have aged or fallen into poor health since their policy payments stopped.Compare your group life insurance against other policies. Group life policies, usually provided by your employer, may not always be the least expensive option. The rates are set based on averages — average age, average health and other important risk factors that may not apply to you. If you have excellent health, shop around to see if you can get better rates elsewhere.Term life insurance is a more affordable option for life insurance. It only covers you for a set period of years; it is usually sold for 10, 20, or 30 year periods. A term life insurance policy is usually much less expensive than a whole life insurance policy per month.Buy the right amount of life insurance to cover all of your living expenses and specified needs. Skimping on life insurance is not a good idea. Term insurance, especially, is very affordable, so make sure you get as much insurance as you need. As a rule of thumb, consider buying insurance that equals approximately 6 to 10 times your income. If you are considering purchasing whole life insurance, keep in mind that this insurance is more expensive, but it will cover your entire life span. If you live to be 100 years of age, you will still have coverage to benefit your family left behind after your death. A term life policy is effective only for a determined amount of time and will expire eventually. Keep in mind, a term life policy is usually less expensive and more affordable than a whole-life insurance policy, and you have the option to renew once the policy runs out.A convertibility feature is a helpful tool. It will allow you to convert your policy to a permanent one if you need one. You just have to make sure you do this before your term expires. This will let you keep your policy, and ease some stress in your life.Keep an eye out for an independent insurance agency that will really care about your needs and watch out for you. There are some life insurance companies that will offer competitive rates for some medical conditions (diabetes, heart disease and cancer). These companies are much more family friendly and don’t just put everyone in a group. Their charge is based off of what you really need. When considering a life insurance policy, be sure to do a great deal of shopping around. Some insurance providers can be more competitive price-wise due to the mass amounts of people they insure. There is also a good deal of difference on the ability of an insurer to guarantee they will be around fifty years later to pay out when it is needed. When considering life insurance, be sure to look outside of what your employer provides. While this may be easier and you may assume they are providing what is best for you, it is not always the case. It is a good solid idea to buy a life insurance policy outside of what is provided by your employer as you can’t take life insurance that is employer provided should you lose your job, find another job, etc. Make sure that they rates and coverage are competitive or better than other offers that you could go with.Did you know? If a relative of yours recently died and named you as the beneficiary on his life insurance policy, but the policy itself is missing, there are steps you can take to locate the policy, even if you don’t know which insurance company issued it. Examine the deceased’s canceled checks for any that were written to insurance companies. Look through any mail you can find for insurance bills or policy status notices. Check with former employers or organizations that the deceased belonged to which may have offered the policy. Look at tax returns for expenses or interest earned in regard to life insurance. Finally, check with the Medical Information Bureau, which has a database that can inform you if the medical records of the deceased were requested by any insurance companies since 1996.Having to think about the possibilities of something unfortunate happening to you is uncomfortable and can be very stressful. However, it is an important financial decision that should be made in order to protect your family and their future. Investing the effort and time to learn all of your options and choosing your policy will in the long run make everyone feel a lot safer and will provide you with peace of mind (the decrease in stress carries the added benefit of increasing your life expectancy).

Pennsylvania man named in alleged terror plot

Tuesday, February 14, 2006

Michael Curtis Reynolds, 47, from Wilkes-Barre, Pennsylvania, is accused of trying to work with al-Qaeda, according to the FBI.

The Phildelphia Inquirer has reportedly obtained court transcripts from Reynold’s Rule Five hearing, before a federal magistrate judge in Pocatello, Idaho that revealed a “convoluted plot” that also includes cyberspace intrigue, an FBI sting, and then an exchange of money in Idaho. Reynolds was represented by Federal Defender, Nick Veith, at the hearing.

According to the transcripts, FBI agents say that Reynolds was plotting to blow up the Alaska pipeline, another pipeline in Pennsylvania and a refinery in New Jersey, with a person who he thought was an al-Qaeda operative. It is also reported that he had planned an attack against Standard Oil Co. in Perth Amboy, New Jersey and Williams Refinery in Opal, Wyoming. However, the Standard Oil refinery, now Chevron, does not exist anymore. The refinery had closed more than a decade ago. All that remains in its place is an empty field. Armada Hess is the only active refinery in Perth Amboy.

So far, Reynolds has not been charged with terrorism.

However, a prosecutor in Reynolds’ December hearing said that, “he tried to provide material aid to al Qaeda.” The prosecutor also said the case “involves a federal offense of terrorism.”

A municipal judge from Conrad, Montana, Shannen Rossmiller, 36, led the FBI to Reynolds by posing as an al-Qaeda operative. Reports say that Rossmiller was looking through terrorist websites when she came across a post by Reynolds who was seeking $40,000 that he would use to buy fuel trucks that would blow up refineries in New Jersey, Wyoming and part of the Alaska Pipeline. After six-weeks of e-mailing each other, Rossmiller agreed to pay the money, and set up a meeting with Reynolds in Pocatello, Idaho. It is reported that after the plans were made, Rossmiller then contacted the FBI who then set up a sting operation, two months ago, against Reynolds. “I feel compelled to do what I can and I know that I have an ability to do something. I’m out for the hunt,” said Rossmiller.

Rossmiller started to look through terror websites just after the September 11 terrorist attacks in NYC. She has read the Koran, studied the radical Islamist lifestyle, and learned just enough Arabic to lurk around in terrorist related chat rooms and “ensnare” the extremists. She also said that he has “assumed several the identities of more than two dozen male personae on the Internet,” and was also part of “a large number” of cases involving the hunting of terrorists. Court records also show that Rossmiller had posed on the Internet as an Algerian terrorist to “befriend” Ryan Anderson, a Muslim convert and a member of the National Guard from the state of Washington, who wanted to hand over information to al-Qaeda on how to destroy Army tanks and humvees.

Assistant U.S. Attorney John C. Gurganus Jr. said, according to transcripts, “he (Reynolds) was doing it as a plan to disrupt governmental function, to change the government’s actions in foreign countries, and to impact on the national debate about the (Iraq) war.”

Reynolds denies trying to work with al-Qaeda and stated that he was “a patriot seeking to expose an al-Qaeda cell inside the United States.” Philip Gelso, Reynolds’s attorney, has not commented on the case.

Authorities searched Reynolds’ home and took his computer as evidence, and some documents allegedly spelling out his terror plots. According to Gurganus, in e-mails on his computer, Reynolds “described what explosives should be used (in the attacks) and where they should be placed.” Gurganus also told the judge that Reynolds, “knew the plots could get him the death penalty as a traitor and that he would have to leave the country immediately once they were carried out.”

According to the British The Inquirer, Microsoft was issued a subpoena last month to allow the Department of Justice access to Reynolds’ hotmail account.

Reynolds has been in Lackawanna County jail, held without bail, since December 5, 2005, when he was arrested about 25 miles from the Thunderbird Motel in Pocatello, Idaho for an unrelated weapons charge. He was charged with possession of an unregistered explosive device when authorities found a grenade in a duffel bag that was inside a home in Pocatello that Reynolds was staying at before he came to Idaho. The grenade charge carries a minimum sentence of three to seven years, to be served in a federal prison. On December 20, a jury indicted and charged Reynolds with two counts of unlawfully possessing hand grenades.

Reynolds pleaded guilty to attempted arson in 1978, a misdemeanor and menacing. He was sentenced to a conditional discharge. He has also been previously convicted of disorderly conduct, resisting arrest and breach of the peace.

The Times-Tribune received a letter on the 13th that used Reynolds’ return address at the Lackawanna County Prison and bears a rubber stamp as used to mark outgoing mail from the jail that detailed Reynold’s denial of ties to al-Qaeda. The letter is postmarked with a date of February 10th, before the Philadelphia Inquirer story was published.

Titled “Patriot Games,” the letter’s content addresses the charge regarding the grenade found at his residence in a comment stating that it was planted there “by someone known to myself and to the FBI.” In denial of work for and also in denial of any desire to work for al-Qaeda, Reynolds wrote that “I know what losses terrorists inflict on people. I would never work to assist them or harbor any,” referring to his claim of a colleague being killed in the September 11 attacks on the Twin Towers.

In the letter Reynolds explains the investigation that he claims to have been working on to track “a person that I had believed to be a terrorist” and to expose them “once I had solid proof of who or where they operated from.”

Reynolds claims that his family founded Bedford Hills, New York in 1676. He further claims that he personally has given military service in the US Army, written a Military police handbook, trained SWAT and drug enforcement teams. He further claims to have been an engineer with military clearance and to have taught in Thailand as a first grade teacher and also an English teacher to Buddhist monks.

As an explanation for his prosecution, Reynolds has written that he believes it to have been due to his military service and that he believes the case would be dismissed provided a hearing in front of a judge.

When questioned as to the authenticity of the letter, prison warden Janine M. Donate said that the letter appeared to be from the prison.

The Pros And Cons Of Cosmetic Plastic Surgery}

Submitted by: Beth Ortiz

You’ve always been secure with the way you look, except for one thing: Your nose. Indeed, your nose has been the subject of frequent ridicule by your peers for as long as you can remember. Of course, now that you’re an adult the comments don’t really happen unless someone is drunk, but you’re still wondering if, perhaps, a change can’t be made.

Specifically, you’re thinking about getting cosmetic plastic surgery on your nose. You’ve decided that your ideal nose would be half the size of your current one, and slimmer too no more of that bulbous stuff. Yes, each time you look in the mirror, the idea of getting cosmetic plastic surgery seems more and more enticing.

Of course, you’re not one to just go right ahead and choose anyone for the cosmetic plastic surgery procedure. You pour over surgeon directories, ask lots of questions, and finally find one that is both reputable and offers reasonable costs. The benefits that you will be getting from the surgery are obvious. After all, look at what a little cosmetic plastic surgery did for Ashlee Simpson’s nose!

You just can’t wait to be able to walk into a room, any room (you’re not picky) and have people admire your nose. You can’t wait to see the looks on people’s faces when you reveal your new look! As excited as you are, there are some aspects that you’re not too excited about at all.

First of all, you’re going to have to recuperate for a couple of weeks. You can’t imagine walking around with that large bandage over your nose (note to self: remember to practice breathing through your mouth) so unless you start wearing a suspiciously large face mask, then it’s going to be just you and your cat in your apartment for a while.

Then, images of Morgan Fairchild and Michael Jackson flash through your head. Morgan Fairchild ended up with a new nose, but that new nose was entirely too small for her face, and she looks silly. Then, Michael Jackson’s nose is dissolving an only held together with some sort of putty. You’d rather have a big nose than no nose at all!

You need to comfort yourself by thinking about the fact that Morgan Fairchild had her plastic surgery done a hundred years ago, when techniques were still being developed. As for Michael Jackson, well, he’s obviously had more than a couple surgeries on that nose of his.

Nevertheless, you still need to see your chosen surgeon’s portfolio. You hurriedly log onto his website, and see the many noses he has transformed. Oh, look at that woman’s nose! It was completely crooked before, and had a big wart on it to boot! You really like her new nose, it looks very natural. Then, of course, there’s the guy who had one of those severely upturned noses. You think his new nose looks quite distinguished. You realize that any cosmetic procedure has its pros and cons, but as long as you have a professional surgeon who knows noses, then you’re all set.

While nearly all coverage of the 2008 Presidential election has focused on the Democratic and Republican candidates, the race for the White House also includes independents and third party candidates. These parties represent a variety of views that may not be acknowledged by the major party platforms.

Wikinews has impartially reached out to these candidates, throughout the campaign. We now interview independent Presidential candidate Frank Moore, a performance artist.
