Conservative groups hold rally in Washington D.C. claiming U.S. elections were stolen from President Trump

Tuesday, December 15, 2020

Several conservative groups claiming the 2020 U.S. presidential election was stolen from incumbent President Donald Trump gathered on Saturday in the U.S. capital, Washington D.C., for a rally organized by Women for America First. Reportedly several thousand supporters turned out, with Trump flags and hats, in D.C. to protest, some in front of the Supreme Court of the United States, which rejected, the day before the rally, a lawsuit filed by Texas which tried to overturn the results in Georgia, Michigan, Pennsylvania, and Wisconsin.

Trump tweeted he wasn’t aware of the event but would go to see it anyway: “Wow! Thousands of people forming in Washington (D.C.) for Stop the Steal. Didn’t know about this, but I’ll be seeing them! #MAGA”  MAGA stands for Make America Great Again — a slogan commonly used by Trump and his supporters.

Trump flew above the rally on his Marine One helicopter on his way to West Point, New York, with supporters cheering below. Former Trump adviser and retired general Michael Flynn was on stage while Trump flew over. This was the first time Flynn made a public speech since he was pardoned by Trump. He said “That’s pretty cool. Imagine just being able to jump in a helicopter and just go for a joy ride around Washington”. Another former Trump adviser, Sebastian Gorka, also spoke in the rally and encouraged supporters to remain hopeful after the recent court decision.

The rallies happened two days before the formal vote of the Electoral College to choose the president-elect. Trump and his supporters claimed Joe Biden only won the elections due to voter fraud and sought to overturn the results. Organizers of the rally said they were fighting corruption and dishonesty. Flynn said there was a lack of transparency in the elections and urged the crowd to consider what the counters are hiding from them and why don’t they let them look at the signatures and at the machines.

A couple from Florida, Richard and Lisa Parry, made a 14-hour drive to D.C. for the rally. Lisa Parry, a retired nurse, said, “I went to bed at 1 o’clock and Trump was ahead. There’s no way[…] I don’t believe it, it’s fake.”

Oil spill spotted along Mississippi River

Sunday, September 4, 2005

In Louisiana, southeast of New Orleans, two storage tanks estimated to be filled with up to 160,000 barrels (6.7 million gallons) of oil are reported to be leaking into the Mississippi River. It was first noticed on September 1, 2005 by an aircraft flying overhead. Officials are not certain whether the tanks are the cause of the leak or how full the tanks are. Inspection of the storage tanks from the ground is impossible due to flooding in the area.

In comparison, the Exxon Valdez oil spill off Alaska leaked between 11 and 35 million gallons of oil.

Due to massive efforts directed toward search and rescue in New Orleans, the Coast Guard has not been able to look into the matter.

Strange Yet Lovable Animal

Strange yet Lovable Animal

by

sarah dawson

I was thinking about animals that are quite strange to look at. I searched the Internet and found many of them. But, the strangest, at least to me, that I was able to search out from the heap of the search results on the Google was the hedgehog. Hedgehog appeared quite curious to me to study about it in detail. A hedgehog is a spiny mammal belonging to the subfamily Erinaceinae. The subfamily Erinaceinae belongs to the order Erinaceomorpha. The spine covering on the body of a hedgehog is the most curious thing.

There are many species of

Hedgehog

and they are found throughout the parts of Asia, Europe, Africa, and have been introduced in New Zealand. There are no species indigenous to Australia. Also, no living species are present in the Americas. These animals share remote ancestry with shrews. These mammalian animals are active at night time. They feed on insects amongst other foods. The spines are hollow hairs without barbs and are stiff in nature due to the presence of the keratin. The hedgehog sheds its baby spines and these are replaced with the adult spines. A sick hedgehog may also lose its spines. Spines are used for the purpose of protection.

In the United Kingdom (UK), badgers predate on these insect eating animals. Population is dropping in the parts of Britain where badgers are huge in numbers. Many societies and animal rescue organizations have appeared in the UK that have the main goal of preventing hedgehogs from getting into the territories crowded with the badgers. On the contrary, there are areas in New Zealand where Hedgehog is itself regarded as a pest and efforts are being put to control their population. In New Zealand, it has proved to be a devastating animal for species such as insects, shore birds, snails, etc. The lack of any natural predator is the main reason that has made this animal quite annoying. Killing of hedgehogs has resulted in outrage from animal welfare groups and societies. For an example, when efforts were made to eliminate these spiny animals from the colonies rich with birds population in Benbecula island located in the Atlantic Ocean, many animal welfare societies revolted worldwide.

So, I found hedgehog a strange but lovable animal. My best animal is cat. I have two cats as pets. Before ending this article, I would like you to inform that if you are an animal lover, you may refer to online resources like

Bird Flu found in Africa

Wednesday, February 8, 2006

The H5N1 Avian Flu virus, also known as Bird Flu, has been found in Nigeria by Italian scientists. Tests done on samples in a laboratory confirm that the strain is the one that can kill people, although no human cases have been reported said the Paris-based United Nations body. This is the first time is has appeared on the continent.

Reports say tests of the virus closely resemble the virus in Asia. The virus has been discovered in poultry flocks in a large Nigerian farm. “It is the first report of the disease in Africa,” the Paris-based World Organization for Animal Health (OIE) said on Wednesday.

“It’s going to be very difficult to mount an eradication campaign,” said Dr. Alex Thiermann, president of the OIE’s international animal health code, from Paris, France. “With what we have today, it is a highly pathogenic H5N1 – the same, or very closely related to the previous ones,” said Thiermann. He also added, “a full genetic analysis of sample viruses is expected to be completed by late Thursday.”

Maria Zampaglione of the Paris-based OIE said “An outbreak has been detected. A local poultry farm keeping 46,000 birds was affected, of which 42,000 were infected and 40,000 of those, died.” The farm is located in Jaji, which is a village in the northern state of Kaduna.

“The farm is located near the Niger Delta, one of the largest over-wintering areas for wild birds in Africa.” said Thiermann.

Quarantine measures on the control and movement of poultry have been taken, and the farm has been disinfected said Nigerian authorities.

“However, it is too early to say how serious the outbreak is and how big its spread could be,” said Ilaria Capua of the Italian bird flu centre in Padua. “We have to be cautious in evaluating the possible implications of these findings.”

In Rome, Samuel Jutzi, a director of the UN’s Food and Agriculture Organization said, “if the situation in Nigeria gets out of control, it will have a devastating impact on the poultry population in the region. It will seriously damage the livelihoods of millions of people and it will increase the exposure of humans to the virus.”

“When you have 46,000 chickens in a house, usually you have some degree of biocontainment…So these (chickens) are not likely to be the ones to first encounter migratory waterfowl,” Thiermann said.

Wildlife circles have been debating on whether or not wild birds are spreading the virus around the globe. Experts believe they are playing a role but most believe poultry movement, poultry products and poultry manure is the main cause of the spreading of the virus.

“But probably not in this case,” said Thiermann. “While it’s too early to blame the wildlife, it’s very likely to be in an area that’s remote enough that it’s not likely to be associated with international trade.”

OIE spokeswoman Zampiglione also said, “Experts had been fearing an African outbreak for months. The conditions there are more likely to lead to contagion from birds to man.”

Starting Out In Forex Trading

The foreign-exchange (“forex” or “FX”) market is the place where currencies are traded. The forex market is the largest, most liquid market in the world with an average traded value that exceeds $1.8 trillion per day.

The forex market is open 24 hours a day, five days a week, with currencies being traded worldwide among the major financial centers of London, New York, Tokyo, Zurich, Frankfurt, Hong Kong, Singapore, Paris and Sydney – spanning most time zones. There is no central marketplace for currency exchange. Trade is conducted over-the-counter.

The forex has been the domain of government central banks, as well as commercial and investment banks. It has also been used for hedge funds by large international corporations. The rules were revised during the 1980s to allow smaller investors to participate using margin accounts. It is because of these margin accounts that forex trading has become so popular. When you consider that a 100:1 margin account allows you to control $100,000 of currency for just $1000, this has created an excellent opportunity for making a great deal of money. Of course, such leverage is also a recipe for losing a great deal if you are not properly prepared. Naturally this course is designed to help you become prepared.

FOREX traders usually require a broker to handle transactions. Most brokers are reputable and are associated with large financial institutions such as banks.

Like anything else, you should shop around for the best bang for the buck when looking for a broker. Here are some things you should look for when considering a broker:

A Respectable Quality Institution – Forex brokers are usually associated with lending institutions or large banks. The reason for this is that such institutions have the large amount of capital needed in order to provide the leverage needed. Look for brokers that are registered with the Futures Commission Merchant (FCM) and regulated by the Commodity Futures Trading Commission (CFTC). This information should be provided on the broker’s webpage or its parent company page.

Lowest Spreads – Forex brokers do not charge a commission such as Futures brokers do. They make their money from the spread, which is calculated in “pips”. The difference between what you can buy the currency for and what you can sell it for is the spread. PIP stands for Price Interest Point. It is the increment in which the currency pair will trade. For example, if you buy the EUR/USD for 1.2015 and it goes up to 1.2016, it has gone up 1 pip. When looking for a forex broker, find one that offers you the lowest spread for the currency pairs you plan on trading.

Types of Accounts – No two traders are alike. Some have a vast amount of money while others have smaller accounts in which to trade. Look for a forex broker that provides you with some account choices. For example, traders with small accounts or just learning how to trade in the forex should look for what many brokers call the “Mini Account”. This type of account requires a small minimum to open, say, $250. This account allows for a high amount of leverage that you will need in order to trade with so little amount of money. In such an account, you can trade with a $1 pip, as opposed to $10 or higher pip value. Standard accounts have higher minimum balance requirements and allow for trading at different leverages. Read carefully the different types of accounts being offered.

Available Leverages – Leverage is important in forex because the price deviations (how you make your money) are merely fractions of a cent. Leverage is the ratio between the capital that is available and actual capital. The leverage depends on what the broker is willing to lend you. For instance, 100:1 ratio means that for every 1 dollar of your money (actual capital) the broker will lend you $100 (available capital). Some brokers offer 250:1 and even 300:1 ratios. The higher the ratio, the more leverage (bang for the buck) you will have. Keep in mind that a high ratio not only gives you more bang for your dollar but it also increases your risk of a margin call. Lower ratio will lower your risk of a margin call, but it will also lower the power of your dollar.

Extra Goodies (Tools, Research) – To get your business brokers provide various free tools and information resources to their customers. You will want to find a broker that will provide you with free real-time price charts as well as an excellent online trading platform. One very popular platform and the one I currently use is FX Trading Station. But shop around and see what is being offered.

The best thing you can do is to ask around on various trading forums where forex traders haunt. This is because there does not exist any blacklist for those brokers that may commit acts of sniping or hunting, which is prematurely buying or selling near preset price points in order to increase profits. Also, make sure that they are happy with the broker’s margin rules. Some may be too strict and get you out when the market moves against you although you still have enough capital to hold the position. The position may turn out in your favor had you not been exited by the broker. This can be costly. So ask around!

Illegal dye found in British food

Wednesday, February 23, 2005

London, Dublin – The illegal food dye Sudan Red 1, derived from chillies and banned in the EU since 2003, due to an associated risk of cancer has been found in several hundred products on European shelves. Products containing the illegal ingredient range from crisps, pizzas, casseroles and various chicken products to dozens of seasonings and sauces. The Italian food authorities found the illegal dye over routine checks, and thus alerted the British and subsequently the Irish authorities.

The dye found its way into the European food supply as a primary ingredient in a batch of Crosse and Blackwell Worcester Sauce ingredient manufactured in Britain by Premier Foods, which was then used in all of the affected food products. As a result of the find over 400 products have been withdrawn in the UK and Ireland. The financial cost of recalling all the affected products in Britain alone is expected to top £100m, €145m.

Despite the recall many industry experts are trying to calm the public. One common analogy in use is, “Just like one cigarette is unlikely to cause cancer on its own, one meal containing Sudan Red is also unlikely to cause cancer.” The problem is, if people regularly consume the dye, then the risk of cancer is greatly increased.

Foot-and-mouth confirmed at UK farm

Saturday, August 4, 2007

Cattle at a farm in Surrey, UK have tested positive for foot-and-mouth disease. After symptoms were reported late on 2 August, the farm was isolated. Following testing, officials from Defra (Department for Environment, Food and Rural Affairs) confirmed the outbreak on 3 August.

A three kilometre exclusion zone and a ten kilometre surveillance zone have been put into place around the farm, near Wanborough. All livestock on the farm have been slaughtered and incinerated. Any movement of livestock in the UK has been banned and the EU has banned exports under emergency measures, expected to be confirmed on Monday. Farmers are urged to watch their animals carefully for symptoms, and report any to Defra officials.

The government’s emergency committee Cobra met to discuss the situation before the announcement, with Prime Minister Gordon Brown participating via telephone. Brown cut short his holiday in Dorset to return to London on Saturday, when another meeting of Cobra was held. Environment Secretary Hilary Benn also returned from holiday in Italy.

The last outbreak of foot-and-mouth in the UK was in 2001. It resulted in the slaughtering of up to 7 million animals, and losses estimated at £8 billion.

In France, the government has asked for all the animals imported during the last ten days to be tested. All meetings including animals have been forbidden on the French territory.

A Guide To The Electric Wheelchair}

A GUIDE TO THE ELECTRIC WHEELCHAIR

by

A wheelchair is a device that helps movement of a person who is disabled or ill. In simple terms it is a chair put upon wheels, which can be pushed either electrically or manually. Those wheelchairs that are pushed electrically are called electric wheelchairs. The electric wheelchairs are powered by motors.

There are many types of wheelchairs that you can get from the market determined by the kind and frequency of use. The wheelchairs can be used inside or outside and can be fetched at a minimum price of $1,500. when you purchase a wheelchair you must think about certain elements like source of power, warranty and cost, the size and weight of the person who would be using it, the weight capacity of the chair and efficiency of use wherever required. There are three types of wheelchairs mid-wheel drive, front-wheel drive and rear-wheel drive.

The most common and traditional type is the rear-wheel drive wheelchair. They run faster that front-wheel types but are not so flexible in turning as the mid-wheel drive and front-wheel drive wheelchairs.

Slowly gaining more popularity is the front-wheel drive wheelchair because they are very flexible and can be turned around better. But because of this feature they are little bit slower than the rear-wheel drive wheelchair.

The mid-wheel drive wheelchair tends to be little bit unsteady while starting and stopping. However it is the tightest turning wheelchair.

There are many other types of wheelchairs. Some are based on weight, ranging from ultra lightweight to heavy-duty wheelchairs. Then there are transport wheelchairs, tilt-in-space wheelchairs, rough terrain wheelchairs, specialty wheelchairs, wheelchairs with an elevating seat, pediatric wheelchairs, and so on and so forth.

Basically wheelchairs are used by those persons who have been struck by many different ailments and have been left with restricted or zero mobility. The problems can include old age, weight, paralysis, broken or weak bones, failing muscles, and a variety of other causes. Electric wheelchairs are easy to manage because they work on batteries and can be manipulated by a joystick. They are also very much moveable since they can turn 360 degrees in a single spot. They also do not cause much sound. Its just that they need more maintenance than hand-driven wheelchairs.

These days electric wheelchairs are being custom made according to the needs of the patient. To improve the strength and durability of the wheelchairs, advanced technologies like pneumatic wheels, hydraulic systems and spring suspension are also used.

You will be spoilt for choices for almost every other component of an electric wheelchair. The frame of the wheelchair can be rigid or foldable while the wheels can be free wheel or front wheel. Many foot and armrests are also available like, detachable, elevating or swing away. The armrests and footplates can be designed for the individual user to adjust for both height and angle.

When you are buying an electric wheelchair the above points are only the beginning of selecting the correct design. Other crucial points to remember are the measurement of the chairs backrest and if it is foldable and/or capable of reclining, the fabric and dimension of the chair’s seat, the kind of controls, hand or automatic brakes, kerb climbers and if the wheelchair will be fitted with lights. You can also attach other items on a wheelchair, including crutch holders, seat belts, a tray, anti-tap bars, drink holders, and bags.

Microsoft waits for death of Internet Explorer 6

Tuesday, March 8, 2011

With development of Microsoft’s Internet Explorer 9 (IE9) browser almost complete, Microsoft announced on Friday that it is time for IE6 users to move away from the antiquated 10-year-old browser. Microsoft has replaced it with three newer versions. On a new website, “The Internet Explorer 6 Countdown”, Microsoft has launched an aggressive campaign to persuade users to stop using IE6 and update to a newer IE. Its goal is to decrease IE6 users to less than one percent.

“[Ten] years ago, a browser was born. Its name was Internet Explorer 6. Now that we’re in 2011, in an era of modern web standards, it’s time to say goodbye,” Microsoft says on “The Internet Explorer 6 Countdown”.

Internet Explorer’s market share is slipping. IE’s various versions accounted for 70 percent of the market in 2009; this has dropped to approximately 56 percent today. Mozilla Firefox, its main rival, has been actively increasing its market share while the recently released Google Chrome is also quickly gaining users. PC World’s recent analysis of its own web traffic statistics concluded, “Usually, Internet Explorer is the #2 browser after Firefox, but over the past 30 days it’s been #3, a couple of points behind Safari-and nearly tied with Chrome. It might be a statistical blip. But if it isn’t, and Chrome continues to surge, IE could fall to fourth place.”

Web developers face big problems with IE6. As they design their web pages for the newer browsers with advanced web technology and geared to the newest web core markup language HTML 5, they are forced to accommodate older out-of-date technology to support IE6 users. Also, not mentioned on Microsoft’s “The Internet Explorer 6 Countdown” site, are the numerous security vulnerabilities putting the browser at risk of being hacked. The Internet security firm Secunia.com, has said that as of March 4, 2011, IE6 has 277 vulnerabilities; 39 percent of these are rated “highly critical”. Microsoft says that the latest versions of Internet Explorer provide the user with enhanced protection from these attacks and threats.

Microsoft’s Internet Explorer 6 is one of the most successful software products ever as measured by its durability and the massive numbers of people who have used it. IE6 shipped with Windows XP, nearly a decade ago. But it has outlived its usefulness, and Microsoft no longer wants to support it.
