Ukrainian manufacturer preparing to sell Adolf Hitler dolls

Thursday, April 24, 2008

Correction — May 3, 2008 This article has been retracted. This article has been deemed a hoax. Please see the follow up article, Hitler doll story found to be hoaxed, for more information.

News reports are claiming that dolls depicting former Nazi leader Adolf Hitler will go on sale in Ukraine. These reports cite Ukraine’s Zerkalo Nedeli newspaper which reported that a toy manufacturer would release the line of Hitler dolls in the summer.

The 40cm doll will reportedly first be available in Kiev with a £100 (GBP) price tag and comes with a large range of accessories in a presentation box with the dates of Hitler’s birth and death.

Nazis images are illegal in Ukraine, with positive portrayal specifically banned. However, there are allegations that right-wing nationalist politics are gaining strength in the country and that xenophobia and racism are on the rise, including some said to be comparable to that present in Germany under Nazi rule. Fascism and propaganda are also banned.

When the former Soviet Union, including Ukraine, was invaded by Germany under Hitler’s rule 2–3 million Ukrainians were among the casualties, of which 1.5 million were Jews.

Adolf can be dressed in various guises, including “early days Adolf”, which consists of a brown shirt and jodhpurs, and “Wartime Adolf”, which features a grey tunic, black trousers and the Iron Cross medal. The doll also comes with boots and shoes, caps, gloves, full uniforms, cane and belt which can be placed on Hitler, whose arms move, allowing the doll to replicate the famed salute of its real life counterpart.

Kids can undress fuhrer, pin on medals and there’s a spare head in the kit to give him a kinder expression on his face

Also included is a model of Blondi, Hitler’s female German Shepherd, who was exceedingly loyal to Hitler. Hitler poisoned Blondi with cyanide in 1945 at the same time as taking his own life in his bunker at Berlin.

“It is like Barbie. Kids can undress fuhrer, pin on medals and there’s a spare head in the kit to give him a kinder expression on his face. He has glasses that are round, in the manner of pacifist John Lennon,” said one saleswoman. The company, which will release the dolls in Summer, says that if demand is high a range of toys themed on the Third Reich may be released, to include barracks, working models of crematoriums and gas chambers, concentration camps and interior models of the chancellery.

The doll is not set to be released until the summer, but BBC News Online has footage suggesting that some stores are selling the doll already.

Wikinews interviews Joe Schriner, Independent U.S. presidential candidate

Saturday, April 17, 2010

Journalist, counselor, painter, and US 2012 Presidential candidate Joe Schriner of Cleveland, Ohio took some time to discuss his campaign with Wikinews in an interview.

Schriner previously ran for president in 2000, 2004, and 2008, but failed to gain much traction in the races. He announced his candidacy for the 2012 race immediately following the 2008 election. Schriner refers to himself as the “Average Joe” candidate, and advocates a pro-life and pro-environmentalist platform. He has been the subject of numerous newspaper articles, and has published public policy papers exploring solutions to American issues.

Wikinews reporter William Saturn? talks with Schriner and discusses his campaign.

Getting A Root Canal In Mt. Clemens

byAlma Abell

We’ve all heard horror stories about root canals: pain, suffering, drilling, etc. We take these stories with us and get an idea that all root canals are going to be a painful, terrifying experience. The thing is, they are not. In fact, most root canals are fairly mundane and easy to deal with. If you are going in for a root canal, you are going to remember all of the horror stories that you heard from friends and family members, though when you get into the chair you are going to have a much different experience: it isn’t going to hurt at all. That’s right, unless it is an extreme case, you aren’t going to feel much of anything during a root canal (thanks to Novocain and the precision of the dentist). The key is to find a dentist who is an expert in a Root Canal in Mt Clemens to take on the job.

The thing about a root canal is that you are much more likely to get bored and annoyed during the procedure than you are to feel pain. Root canals can take a long time (think an hour and a half), and when you are sitting there with someone tinkering in the back of your mouth, well, you are going to get a bit bored with the procedure. Even worse, there is a good chance that you are going to sit around waiting for the pain to come (which it won’t), which will make the procedure even harder to get through. You have to have a lot of patience when you have a root canal, as well as a dentist that is going to be able to put you at ease.

When you are looking for a dentist that is going to be able to give you a Root Canal in Mt Clemens that is going to leave you feeling okay during the procedure, you want to look for someone who has plenty of experience with them. They shouldn’t just do a great job on your tooth, they should be someone who will keep you at ease during the procedure. One option you want to consider in your search is going to be Making Beautiful Smiles of Mt Clemens.

Getting Long Distane Movers In Conway, Ar

byAlma Abell

There is a lot of “pride” that goes into the idea of moving. For a good amount of people out there, they don’t want to have to rely on professional moving companies to take care of any part of the move because, well, they can do it themselves (with some help with friends and family members, of course). The thing is, while there are some easy moves that can be taken care of with a few people, there are other types of moves that need to be done by those who know what they are doing. When you are moving long-distances, whether it is across the state or across the country, you need to consider calling out long-distance movers in Conway AR to take care of the move for you. While you can do this type of move on your own, you don’t want to find yourself in a situation where you spend more money, and precious time, taking care of even the most basic of moves.

While people tend to think hiring professional movers is more expensive then doing it on their own, when it comes to a long distance move the prices are going to line up a bit more. When you rent a truck, you don’t just rent it by the day, you rent it by the mile. When you are driving across a state, you are dealing with hundreds, if not thousands, of miles of mileage costs, not counting the gas. If you can find Long-Distance Movers in Conway, AR that are going to be able to charge you a flat rate for the move, you may find that you can actually save money going with the professionals.

When you get Long-Distance Movers in Conway, AR, you also get professionals who can help move the items in and out of the truck. In addition, you get licensed, bonded and insured drivers who will make sure that your items stay safe when they are on the road. Whether you have a six bedroom house or a two bedroom apartment, going with the professionals will make everything easier. You can find more info at Dossmoving.com.

Original Story
  • “Hotel development proposal could displace Buffalo, NY business owners” — Wikinews, February 17, 2006

Wednesday, July 26, 2006

Buffalo, New York —The preliminary hearing for a lawsuit against the Elmwood Village Hotel proposal has been pushed back to August 10, 2006.

The hotel would require the demolition of at least five properties owned by Hans Mobius, 1109-1121 Elmwood and would cause the closure of several businesses. Already, two businesses, Skunk Tail Glass and Six Nations Native American Gift Shop have relocated, outside the Elmwood Strip. Don apparel, H.O.D. Tattoo and Mondo Video still remain on Elmwood; however, Mondo Video is planning on moving to a new location. The hotel will be 72 rooms and will cost at least 7 million dollars to build. Savarino Construction Services Corporation would be in charge of building the hotel and Wyndham Hotels would operate it.

Attorney Arthur Giacalone says that the court date was pushed back because “the court apparently felt it did not make sense to proceed with oral argument on 7/27 if Savarino is going to re-start the process.” Giacalone also stated that the decision to adjourn until August 10 “was not my idea.” On July 13, 2006 Savarino announced that they were withdrawing the proposal to “resubmit” it to “shed the lawsuits” against the proposal.

Savarino was allegedly supposed to resubmit the proposal by the end of last week but so far has not done so. The final meeting of Buffalo’s Common Council for the summer occurred today. The Council will not meet again until September.

“If they [Savarino] took no action today, re the hotel, [that is, accepting the new application, or rescinding the prior rezoning resolution], nothing official will happen for the next 6 weeks or so,” added Giacalone also saying that if this is the case, “the court may not be willing to hear oral argument on 8/10 since we will still be up in the air about what’s going on.” Giacalone also states that he is unsure about “what they [the Common Council] did today.”

Despite the call for a “do-over” of the proposals process, Giacalone still states that his client’s position of the “pending lawsuit will not be ‘moot’ or ‘academic’ unless and until the Common Council rescinds its prior vote(s) that approved the rezoning” for the buildings on Elmwood and one property on Forest Avenues.

Sam Savarino, CEO of Savarino Construction has been contacted, but has not replied to any e-mails. Area councilman Joseph Golombeck has also been e-mailed, but also has not replied.

Bird flu spreading through Indonesia and China

Thursday, February 9, 2006

Two Indonesian women, 23 and 27, have tested positive for the H5N1 strain of avian influenza. They are in “serious condition but seem to be improving,” said Hariadi Wibisono, a senior health ministry official. They are being treated in the designated bird flu hospital, Sulianti Suroso in eastern Jakarta. It is believed that both women had contact with infected poultry. This brings Indonesia’s number of confirmed cases of the virus to 25.

A 26 year old female farmer in Fujian, China whose surname is Lin, also has the deadly H5N1 virus. She was admitted to the hospital in January, but it was only confirmed on Wednesday that she had the virus. Some of the people that have come in close contact with the woman are under observation by local health officials. Her current condition is reported as stable. This is China’s eleventh confirmed case of the virus.

Julie Hall of the Beijing-based World Health Organization said that the latest patient was “highly likely to have had contact with sick animals,” but the WHO is still waiting for information on how she could have gotten the disease.

Some experts believe migrating birds from China’s Qinghai Lake nature reserve are spreading the virus; however, there others who believe it’s shipments of poultry and poultry products along with poultry manure.

As avian influenza confirmed in Nigeria, “We shouldn’t assume that is just in Nigeria” said David Nabarro, the United Nations’ coordinator for bird flu and pandemic influenza. “The outbreak in Nigeria means [we] have another central point for the virus to become embedded into the poultry population.”

About 20 countries have reported outbreaks of the virus in birds which has sickened people who come in contact with the infected birds. If the rate of human infection continues to increase, so does the chance the virus will change into a form easily transmitted by humans.
