What Is Ethics And Corporate Compliance In Healthcare All About: 7 Points

Submitted by: Greg Garner

Ethics and Corporate Compliance training courses promote better communication, increased security, and efficient decision-making within healthcare facilities. Listed below is some information on what these types of training courses really entail and why it is crucial that medical employees attend it.

1. Ethics and corporate compliance training courses designed for hospitals and medical clinics deal with a variety of topics, most of them concerning legal aspects. Depending on the company offering the training course, these topics include, but are not limited to: fraud and abuse laws, the stark law, the false claims act, the anti kickback statute, mail and wire fraud, federal exclusion, the perils of non-compliance, and civil and criminal penalties. The exact topics may differ a little, but these are the most important points covered.

2. These training classes help reinforce the importance of ethics within the work place and they promote responsibility for both staff members and senior management. They are important for healthcare facilities because they teach employees how to act right from a legal point of view and they help prevent situations such as breaching of patient confidentiality, harassment, identity theft, and so on.

3. Ethics and compliance training is a course which hospital employees and management have to take and pass for their credentialing. Most companies that offer such training have online interactive platforms which are easy and fast to use by applicants. The courses may be presented in Adobe flash format or they may be text based with optional audio narration.

4. After the member views, reads or listens to the course, he or she is required to pass a test, usually a multiple answers one, before being able to receive the certificate. Some training courses offer members the possibility to take the test multiple times, with absolutely no pressure.

5. A company offering ethics and corporate compliance training classes for healthcare professionals may offer extra advantages and features, such as a member friendly interface, real life scenarios, case studies, and the ability to directly print the certificate upon completion of the course.

6. As a manager, you can sign up all of the staff members that need to complete the ethics and corporate compliance training and you may even get a discount for a certain number of people subscribed. Hospitals and other healthcare facilities usually also receive an organization discount.

7. The great advantage of online training courses in general is that you gain instant access to all the courses you need, from the moment you sign up a pay the inscription fee. Additionally, because healthcare training course have to comply with certain regulations, they are constantly updated, for no additional fee.

Some companies even offer no questions asked money back guarantees, so if you or one of your employees is dissatisfied with the course you can easily recuperate your investment.

These are some of the most important things one needs to know about ethics and corporate compliance training courses in the healthcare system. For more information, contact any company offering ethics and corporate compliance training.

Indonesia warns Australia over West Papuan asylum seekers

Friday, February 3, 2006

Indonesia’s ambassador to Australia has warned that relations between the two neighbors could be “strained” if the Howard Government grants political asylum to a group of refugees from the troubled Indonesian province of West Papua.

The 43 West Papuans, pro-independence activists and their families, arrived on Cape York, Australia on January 18 after a five-day voyage in an outrigger canoe. They were later taken to an immigration detention facility on Christmas Island, a remote Australian territory in the Indian Ocean.

A spokesman for the group says they fear they will be killed if returned to Indonesian-controlled Papua, where a pro-independence movement has been operating since the 1960s.

Jakarta’s ambassador warned of strained relations if they are granted asylum. Indonesia’s ambassador, Teuku Mohammad Hamzah Thayeb, said the group had nothing to fear from Indonesian authorities. Asked if granting asylum to the group would strain Australia/Indonesia relations, Thayeb said: “I would hope it will not, but it certainly would have an effect. That’s why we have to manage this together and find a solution.” President Susilo Bambang Yudhoyono has also guaranteed the group’s safety should they return.

Queensland National Senator Barnaby Joyce, who met with the 43 refugees on Christmas Island, said they appear to have a genuine asylum claim and had been persecuted because of their Christian beliefs. “There are documented cases of members within their families being shot,” he said. “There’s certainly on the record experiences of them being jailed and tortured so I think they would be under risk if they went back,” he said.

The group, which includes seven children, arrived carrying a banner accusing Indonesia of terrorism and genocide in the province. Indonesian troops have been repeatedly accused of rights abuses in Papua province, which was taken over by Jakarta in 1963. Over 100,000 Papuans, one-sixth of the population, have died in military operations.

Immigration Minister Amanda Vanstone said, “if they ask for protection we will consider the claim appropriately and if it is appropriate to offer it, we will offer it.”

The leader of the asylum seekers, Herman Wainggai, says the Indonesian military treat indigenous Papuans “like animals”. Mr Thayeb disagreed: “We have changed fundamentally within ourselves,” he said.

Indonesia offered Papua special autonomy in 2001 in an effort to quell unrest from the Melanesian population in the resource-rich area. Mr Wainggai described the Papuan autonomy as a “sham”, and said there have been many reports of the Indonesian military “murdering and raping people, and destroying villages since autonomy came into force.”

Papua controversially became an Indonesia province after a vote in 1969 overseen by the United Nations called the “Act of Free Choice”. The Act of Free Choice was drafted by the UN and gave every adult the right to vote on the issue of independence. However, only 1022 people hand-picked by the Indonesian authorities were allowed to vote. Reinforcing the dubious nature of the poll, the voters gave 100 per cent approval to become part of Indonesia.

Indonesia’s ambassador said there was no reason for the West Papuans to seek asylum as they were not criminals.

The Australian Greens said the Indonesian ambassador’s assurances that West Papuan asylum seekers would be safe if they returned home should not be believed.

“The new Indonesian Ambassador’s assurances about the safety of West Papuan refugees if they are returned to Indonesia are not credible,” Senator Nettle said. “The escalating repression of the independence movement and generalised suppression of the people of West Papua is well documented.”

“The Australian government should not give in to Indonesian pressure,” Senator Nettle said.

Senator Joyce said the group of native West Papuans were Christian, which meant they are ethnically, religiously and politically isolated after an influx of Indonesians to the province.

US Republicans query Linux Foundation about open-source security

Wednesday, April 4, 2018

On Monday, two US Republican Party legislators, Greg Walden and Frank Pallone Jr., respectively the chairman and the ranking member of the United States House Committee on Energy and Commerce, co-wrote a public letter to Jim Zemlin, executive director of The Linux Foundation, about open-source software (OSS) and improving its security. They requested Zemlin to answer their questions by no later than April 16.

The letter contained the following four questions; each of the first two has a further two follow-up questions.

  1. Has the CII [Core Infrastructure Initiative] performed a comprehensive study of which pieces of OSS are most crucial to the “global information infrastructure”?
    1. If not, does the CII plan to perform such a study?
    2. What would the CII need in order to do so?
  2. Has the CII, or any other organizations, compiled any statistics on OSS usage?
    1. If not, does the CII plan to perform such a study?
    2. What would the CII need in order to do so?
  3. In your estimation, how sustainable and stable is the OSS ecosystem?
  4. Based on your response to the previous question, how can the OSS ecosystem be made more sustainable and stable?

Walden and Pallone exemplified Heartbleed, a “critical cybersecurity vulnerability” that allowed the hacking of websites and passwords, and millions of medical records in 2014. They also wrote that, in response to that vulnerability, The Linux Foundation established a multi-million dollar project, the Core Infrastructure Initiative, intended to improve the global infrastucture of such software.

The politicians noted large tech companies like Microsoft, Apple Inc., and Adobe Systems respond more quickly to such critical vulnerabilities than distributors and developers of open-source software.

Open-source software is “publicly accessible” and usually freely-licensed for a wide range of use, such as modification and commercial uses. Walden and Pallone also expressed praise toward open-source software and cited a 2015 survey conducted by Black Duck Software saying 78% of companies used such software.

Brett Favre says goodbye to NFL at press conference

Friday, March 7, 2008

After playing 17 seasons in the United States’ top professional football league, quarterback Brett Favre of the National Football League‘s (NFL) Green Bay Packers bid a final farewell to the sport in an emotional press conference at Lambeau Field on Thursday, saying he is “not up to the challenge” of another season.

“I know I can play. But I don’t think I want to, and that’s what it really comes down to,” the 38-year-old Favre said.

Favre, who officially retired on Tuesday, dressed for the hour-long event in an untucked button-down shirt, blue jeans, and days worth of stubble. “It is on my terms, which is a good way to go out,” he said of his attire. He thanked the Green Bay Packers’ organization, his family, and his fans for their support throughout his career, but reluctantly admitted it was time to move on.

“I’ve given everything I can possibly give to this organization and I don’t think I’ve got anything left to give,” he said, as tears welled up in his eyes. “What matters is it’s been a great career for me. It’s over. As hard as it is for me to say, it’s over.”

His retirement came as somewhat of a surprise to the Packers, who expected he would return for another year. Favre refuted the notion that the Packers did not do enough to get him to return, and assured the organization that nothing they could have done would have affected his decision.

It’s only gotten tougher and something told me ‘You know it’s gotten too hard for you.’

“I know there’s been comments and issues in the press lately about why I’m leaving, whether or not the Packers did enough, whether or not Ted or (coach) Mike (McCarthy) convinced me to stay,” Favre said. “None of those things have anything to do with me retiring, and that’s from the heart.”

He instead offered a simpler reason for his departure: the stress of the job was getting to be too much “I don’t think it would get easier next year or the following year,” he said. “It hasn’t up until this point. It’s only gotten tougher and something told me ‘You know it’s gotten too hard for you.'”

When asked about his future plans, he replied, “Nothing.” This is a new phase in his life, he explained. “I am going to stick to that until I want to do something else.” He and his wife, Deanna, said they will be putting all public events on hold for a year, because, as Deanna said, “Honestly, we both are really tired.” He says they will still be involved with charities in the future, but not as extensively as before.

Favre holds NFL records in most wins by a starting quarterback, most passing yards, most passing touchdowns and most consecutive games started. However, he says that “the statistics part wasn’t that important. I was never really a statistics guy. I hope my legacy is a lot more than that.”

In 2007, he led the Packers to a 13-3 season, but lost in the NFC championship game to the eventual champion New York Giants. The final pass of his career was an interception that resulted in the Giants’ game-winning field goal. Still, Favre believes he is “going out on top”, and he could “care less what other people think”.

“One play, one game, one season, doesn’t define me,” he said. “It has been a wonderful career.”

Is It Possible To Quit Smoking Weed Permanently

These options can help you not only get the upper hand, they can prove to you that you can do a lot more if you will yourself forward. That being said, take a few notes that could help you gain the upper hand in your quest to quit smoking.

Deciding To Quit

The first thing that you should know is simple, you can quit. But you need to first decide that you really want to quit. Many people think that they want to, but don’t really mean it. Do you mean it? Seriously, ask yourself if you’re ready to take on this quest, because it’s going to take a lot of of your strength. The average person will quit many times, and will not see any results until they’ve gotten some help. Others will quit for a short time, and then they will start again. You have to truly decide that you want to quit, and that’s not something that you should take on lightly.

Rehab Can Work

If you’re serious about permanently quitting, then you should look into rehab. Rehabilitation centers can help you quit smoking for good, and they can do so through a variety of means. You do not have to isolate yourself with nothing to do, and without any contact to the outside world. You can do something grand and get through rehab and actually quit for a lifetime. This may sound crazy, but it’s true. Some rehabs specialize in marijuana cessation, and are proven to help people stop smoking for a lifetime.

Getting Support

People that truly quit for a lifetime do so with the help of some support. If you want to get support, you need to seek it out. There’s many meetings that you can join, and even work on the twelve steps that could change your life for the good. That’s a great thing and could very well change things for the better. The thing about this is that you’re going to need to commit yourself to being open with others. If you do this, then by all means, you may find yourself in a support system that is going to help you quit permanently.

Staying clean and sober is not an easy task. You’re going to have to work at it, and it may not be easy for you to traverse at first glance. However, in time, if you just keep pushing yourself, you could very well see a great option for you to work with overall. Take on the steps to getting clean by truly deciding to quit. Once you do that, chase an option that is going to pay off dividends. You may be surprised that you can quit permanently, if you try.

United States: Four injured in Los Angeles school shooting

Sunday, February 4, 2018

Thursday morning, at Salvador Castro Middle School in the Westlake District, Los Angeles (L.A.), California, US, four students were injured when a gun went off in a girl’s backpack, according to police. L.A. police took a suspect into custody, a twelve-year-old female student, and recovered the gun at the scene.

The four injured students were transported to a local hospital. A fifteen-year-old boy suffered a gunshot wound to the head and was recovering according to a Los Angeles County-USC Medical Center spokesperson on Wednesday. A fifteen-year-old girl was shot in the wrist, and two other students were grazed. The girl and two other students were hospitalized for their injuries.

A 30-year-old staff member was also injured, but reports were unclear whether she was injured by gunfire.

Police officials charged the twelve-year-old girl with negligent discharge of a firearm and she was taken to a juvenile detention center. Police said they did not believe the shooting was intentional, but suspected the girl had the gun in her backpack and it fired off when the bag dropped on the ground.

The Westlake middle school is located near downtown L.A. and is located on the campus of Belmont High School and had an enrollment last year of 355 students.

Gastric bypass surgery performed by remote control

Sunday, August 21, 2005

A robotic system at Stanford Medical Center was used to perform a laparoscopic gastric bypass surgery successfully with a theoretically similar rate of complications to that seen in standard operations. However, as there were only 10 people in the experimental group (and another 10 in the control group), this is not a statistically significant sample.

If this surgical procedure is as successful in large-scale studies, it may lead the way for the use of robotic surgery in even more delicate procedures, such as heart surgery. Note that this is not a fully automated system, as a human doctor controls the operation via remote control. Laparoscopic gastric bypass surgery is a treatment for obesity.

There were concerns that doctors, in the future, might only be trained in the remote control procedure. Ronald G. Latimer, M.D., of Santa Barbara, CA, warned “The fact that surgeons may have to open the patient or might actually need to revert to standard laparoscopic techniques demands that this basic training be a requirement before a robot is purchased. Robots do malfunction, so a backup system is imperative. We should not be seduced to buy this instrument to train surgeons if they are not able to do the primary operations themselves.”

There are precedents for just such a problem occurring. A previous “new technology”, the electrocardiogram (ECG), has lead to a lack of basic education on the older technology, the stethoscope. As a result, many heart conditions now go undiagnosed, especially in children and others who rarely undergo an ECG procedure.

In early May, Wikinews extended an invitation to Vitaly Filipchenko, an independent candidate in the 2021 New York City mayoral election, set to take place November 2nd, alongside other candidates. Filipchenko answered some questions about his policies and campaign during a phone interview.

Filipchenko, registered on the New York City Campaign Finance Board as Vitaly A. Filipchenko, is the first Russian candidate for New York City mayor, being born in Tomsk, Siberia in 1973, according to news agency Sputnik. He has since naturalised as a United States citizen. According to the web site, Filipchenko has been educated in road construction and maintenance and owns a moving services company; he describes himself on his web site as a “small business owner”. On his web site’s platform page, he says that “[m]y English may not be perfect – but my platform is.”

Incumbent Democrat mayor Bill de Blasio, who won re-election in the 2017 New York City mayoral election by 66.5%, cannot run for a third term under term limits. As of April 28, 22 candidates are currently running, the majority of whom are also Democrats. Ahead of the June Democratic primary for New York City mayor, a poll conducted May 23 and 24 by WPIX and Emerson College of 12 Democratic candidates with a margin of error of 3.2 per cent has former commissioner for the New York City Department of Sanitation Kathryn Garcia and Borough President of Brooklyn Eric Adams leading with 21.1% and 20.1%, respectively.

Moving The Kids From Bunk Beds To Captains Beds

By Ben Weissman

Are your kids ready for larger beds? Is it time to give up the bunk beds and to move on to captain’s beds? Many kids need to make this move for one reason or the other, but some will fight it. Some children love the bunk bed because it is high off the ground. Others enjoy the captains bed because it offers more storage and functionality. Moving children from one style of bedroom furniture to another can be difficult, but there are a few things you can do to minimize the risks and make the transition effective.

Make Them Part of the Decision

One of the ways that you can minimize the tension when switching bed types is to allow your children to help you to make those decisions. Allow them to offer an opinion on the style of bed they like. Some may prefer a bookcase headboard while others may want extra open storage for their skateboard and other gear. The child may prefer a different color or material, too. By allowing them to offer an opinion of what they like, you are more likely to ensure they will enjoy the bed in the months to come.

Dress It Up

When buying new bedroom sets, whether it is bunk beds or captain beds, you can make a big difference in the way your children react to it if you purchase new bedding for it. Choose their favorite cartoon character or colors. Get new pillows and a new mattress if it is necessary to do so. This helps your child to feel more at home and more welcomed in the new space. It is also a great way to dress up the room.

Keep Something Old

On the flip side, many children want to feel at home. Their bed, while it may only be a small part of their lives, is supposed to feel comfortable. This is especially true for younger children who may have a special stuffed animal they are sleeping with. For older kids, switching to a new bedroom style can help them to move away from those childish styles and furnishings but for others, allowing small items like a night light or a stuffed animal to join them in their new bed will helop them to feel more at home.

Buy Quality

Take the time to check out a range of bedroom options, too. Buying cheap bedroom furniture will not last and it may cost you more since you will need to replace it after a few years. Buy quality and your children will appreciate it for years to come.

For those who are looking for a way to update their child’s bedroom furniture, it is always a good idea to start looking at your options on the web. Captain’s beds are a great investment because they offer ample storage, excellent features and comfort to your growing child. It may be time for an upgrade of the children’s bedroom furniture and that means taking the time to include them in the decision making process.

U.S. House rejects Senate version of payroll tax cut

Wednesday, December 21, 2011

Yesterday, the United States House of Representatives voted to effectively reject the Senate version of a bill, passed with bipartisan support, to extend a payroll tax cut two months past its year-end expiration date. The House voted instead to create a conference committee to settle differences between members of both bodies.

Although the tax cut extension itself has support among Republicans and Democrats, lawmakers disagree on how Congress should go about compensating for the cost of extending the cut and the policy changes it would entail.

During an appearance yesterday, President Obama condemned opposition to the Senate-passed version of the bill, accusing Republicans in the House of trying to negotiate on matters unrelated to the bill. Republicans, in response, say there is still time to negotiate the bill, insisting that lawmakers ought to concentrate on a year-long plan rather than a two-month extension. Senate Democratic leader Harry Reid, however, says he will not agree to negotiate the tax cut extension until the Senate-approved bill is passed by the House.

If the tax cut is not extended and instead expires on December 31, approximately 160 million Americans will be affected by the tax increase; President Obama insists the only way to prevent the tax hike beginning January 1 is for the House to pass the Senate bill. In response, House Speaker and Republican John Boehner wants Obama to “call on the Senate to return” to negotiate. The Senate, shortly after passing the bill, adjourned for the Holiday break.

Also included in the bill is a provision that would require President Obama to make a decision regarding the construction of the Keystone XL pipeline, a pipeline that would transport oil from Canada to Texas.

House Democratic leader Nancy Pelosi blamed the congressional year-end impasse on “Tea Party Republicans.” In a letter to President Obama, Speaker Boehner requested he galvanize the Senate to negotiate on the bill’s provisions, writing “The differences between the two different bills can be quickly reconciled to provide the American people the certainty of a full-year bill. There are still 11 days before the end of the year, and with so many Americans struggling, there is no reason they should be wasted. You have said many times that Congress must do its work before taking vacation”.
